Supporting Our Ministry

On behalf of the Menbere Berhan St. Mary Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church in Toronto, we would like to welcome you to our News and events page. Join us on a spiritual journey through which we welcome you to learn and experience the faith of the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church. It is a life long journey, which must be approached with a tremendous commitment and patience. In return, "one will be able to taste the fruits of the faith, which are peace of mind, tranquility, joy of life, and happiness in the process".

St. Mary Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church of Canada has been meeting the spiritual and physical needs of the community in the Greater Toronto Area for the last 24 years. While its presence has been constant, the Church has expanded to serve the community in our buildings.

For the past seven years, St. Mary’s has grown exponentially to the point where our existing facilities are no longer enough to fulfill our commitment to the community. We provide a nursery program for younger children, as well as, educational programs for elementary and secondary school students. It is our vision to provide a fully functional facility to serve the spiritual, educational and physical needs of the community. As part of our vision we are building a library and archive to serve scholars of Ethiopian history and the academic community at large. The new facility will house a banquet hall ideal for community meetings, festivals, weddings, and baptismal and funeral ceremonies.

Over the past 7 years the level and range of activity at St. Mary’s has increased to the point where the existing space is inadequate. We have started up nursery school serving the children of our parishioners and an active educational program for both primary and secondary school students. To create the Church museum and library/archive, which we will be serving the community, scholars of Ethiopian History, and Canadians at large. The parish halls provide community meeting space, festival activities, wedding, baptismal, and funeral ceremonies. The clergies healing ministry includes counseling on all social matters and pre-marital education. It will also serve as the headquarters for Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.

It is only through your generous donations that we are able to continue to serve the physical, spiritual, and educational needs of our community.
